It’s been an intellectually fruitful weekend. I thought a lot, I’m sitting for a partial tomorrow and I’m halfway through the other one, and things seem to be falling into place. If all goes well, I think next week I’ll be taking an artistic break. I need to read, write and take more pictures or the creative part of my brain will collapse.
I went shooting today but I’m not very happy with the results; I’ll see if I can find a few good shots to put a post together. These are still from last week, and I’m not wildly happy about them, either. Something is clearly wrong with the creative side of my personality, and so far I’m blaming it on exhaustion. Oh well, nothing lasts forever.

These are beautiful, what are you talking about?! The one with the nail is such a unique one. Something so mundane looking so beautiful with the creative use of light. You have an eye for beauty my dear girl!
Having said that, I do understand the frustration that takes over sometimes and the feeling of loss of creativity. But according to me, creativity is not a property that you possess. It is developed and nurtured by intelligent thinking and a process of trial and error. Not every attempt will be a masterpiece but it doesn’t have to be. Because you are human and allowing yourself that leeway will make you appreciate yourself better. Hope you start feeling like yourself soon 🙂

Thanks, Dhaami. It’s great to hear that. I don’t know what it is, but lately I feel like no picture I take comes out the way I want it. Maybe it’s just me, maybe I’m tired and it’s like when you read a sentence ten times and have no idea what it says because you can’t concentrate on the words. Partials have been known to mess with people’s minds, and the same goes for selfish teachers.
I noticed the nail because I have vertigo, and even though I grew up walking this pier up and down (and running on it, which according to my mother you shouldn’t do), now I have to pay attention so I don’t freak out. And there I was, watching where I put my feet, when I noticed the rusty nail practically glowing in the sunset light.
Thanks for your words, I’ll keep them in mind the next time I feel like beating myself up.

Sometimes it’s good to take a little creative break. Do something different, something other than photography. It will help you see things in another way which will in turn help you with the creativity side of photography.

Thanks, Robin! I’ve taken up scrapbooking, and I’m working on a new crocheted sweater, and it’s helped to focus on something different. Maybe I feel frustrated about my photography because I’m shooting a lot less than a month ago, so there are less chances to have a great shot at least once a week.
Luckily for me the worst part of the semester is almost over, and maybe then I’ll have more time to go back to enjoying photography again.

I agree with Dhaami, these shots are great! I love the last one, especially how big the sky and the water are in the shot, it gives you a real feeling of being there. Glad you decided to post them!

Thanks, Kieran! Glad you like that one, it’s another one I wasn’t too sure about. I love that spot of the harbor, but I never get a good shot because I keep thinking carrying the tripod around is too cumbersome. I’ll have to stop doing that!

They’re stunning pictures – the light is amazing. Where is the location? As other people have commented, I particularly love the one with the nail – such a beautiful portrait of a non-beautiful subject.

Thank you! These were taken at Ingeniero White, a coastal location in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It’s one of my favorite spots to go photoshooting.
Focusing on things most people would ignore is one of the things I love most about photography – you get to show the world in a whole different way.
