My words and my pictures. All I have

Cloudscapes

I can’t believe it’s been a month. March was not the best month. I did graduate, and it was nice, but otherwise it was a forgettable month, so I’ve decided April is going to be the opposite. To begin with, I have even more good news to share: I’ve been granted the scholarship I applied for last year. I’m still trying to get used to the idea, I just got the official confirmation today, but it’s really, really good. I get paid to work on one of my favorite things: writing about science fiction and feminism. I might have to ask someone to pinch me later :).

On the photography front, I’ve discovered some filters on Nik Color Pro, and I’ve been having fun trying them on my photos. I really like how they change the mood of some otherwise boring shots. Hope you like these!

Celebratory sunset

I have very good news to share with you. First, Artismysanity turned two about a month ago (I forgot to mention it back then, but I remembered now, so Happy Birthday!). Like I did last year, I want to thank everyone that has stopped by, liked or commented on one of my posts and followed this blog – without you, this blog would make no sense. Here’s to another year of enjoying photography and sharing it with you all!

Second, my graduation is in a couple of weeks. My last final was almost a year ago, but the paperwork took forever, so I’m only getting my degree now. I hate paperwork. But I love that this moment has finally arrived, because it gives me a wonderful sense of closure. It’s over, I’m done. Not completely, since I’m still working to get what we here call Licenciatura, but I’m officially a teacher, I get to hang that piece of paper on the wall and pat myself on the back. And I get to buy new clothes for the ceremony, which is always nice :).

These are a few more shots from last summer. It was one of the most peaceful and beautiful days I have ever spent at the local beach, and I think it’s a great way to celebrate, since whenever I needed to escape from the madness of classes and exams, this is where I went. Enjoy!

Kite surfer

I finally finished editing some photos from last December. I was wearing a parka when I shot these, so you can imagine the beach wasn’t too crowded, which was really lucky, since otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to shoot these. This guy was kite-surfing for a while during sunset, and there were moments when he was literally flying. It was unbelievable, and I will be posting some more shots of his athletic prowess. It was a lucky time to be shooting :).

Liquid gold

Hi there, everyone! How did your 2013 start? Mine started with overcast skies, howling winds, lightening, thunder, and rain. 2012 went out with a bang, quite literally, thwarting my plan to shoot the last sunset of 2012 and the first sunrise of 2013. I got the next best thing, though, the last visible sunset and the first visible sunrise, and all the sunsets and sunrises I shot while I was on vacation were gorgeous, so I’m not complaining about a little bit of (seriously) bad weather.

These shots aren’t from my vacation, though, because I haven’t had time to edit those. They’re from last February, a fantastic stormy sunset shot at the local beach. Hope you like them!

Birthday sunset

This post is for you, Jeff, because you asked for it :). I love photography, and I love this blog, but sometimes I get so wrapped up in everyday life that I forget to make time for my passion, so thanks for reminding me I needed to post right now!!

Fortunately, I’m passionate about my work, too. I can’t believe it’s almost December and my last semester of college is almost over, but I’m glad because I know I made the most of it. I’ve started working on my thesis, and it’s so much fun! I don’t mind the paperwork, I don’t mind the crazy deadlines, I just love being able to write about something that I love. There’s nothing better than waking up every morning feeling grateful for all the wonderful things I have in my life :).

I took these shots on my birthday week, this beautiful sunset was nature’s gift to me. Hope you like them!

The ocean, the fishermen, and the muddy sneakers

I can’t believe how fast time goes by. It’s October already! I’ve been trying to shoot on a weekly basis (for the sake of my sanity), but unfortunately I don’t have much time to edit. These are from last summer, I’m really looking forward to going on vacation to this awesome place again, I miss the open ocean.

I have most of this week off, so I’ll try to work on some of my more recent photos. See you soon! (I hope).

Before I leave, I wanted to share with you the lengths I’ll go to in order to get the perfect shot. This is what happened to my “good” sneakers yesterday. Oh well, that’s what the washing machine is for, the sunset was gorgeous :).

Fishermen and reflections on the sand

I’m alive! I don’t exactly know how, but I’ve already survived two weeks of this crazy semester. It’s just the same as high school, when you’re almost done and you can see the finish line, teachers throw everything they have at you. So if I don’t post often, don’t worry, I’m just trying to keep up with the endless workload (and I’m loving Art History!). I’m still shooting, but I don’t have a lot of time to edit the photos I take.

I’ve lost count of how long it’s been since I last shot a sunset – I’m hoping to go shooting this weekend, if I can organize my time. For now, I went to the archives and edited some more shots from my summer vacation. This sunset alone can keep me sane through the entire year, it’s so gorgeous :). Hope you like these!
