My words and my pictures. All I have

Birthday sunset

This post is for you, Jeff, because you asked for it :). I love photography, and I love this blog, but sometimes I get so wrapped up in everyday life that I forget to make time for my passion, so thanks for reminding me I needed to post right now!!

Fortunately, I’m passionate about my work, too. I can’t believe it’s almost December and my last semester of college is almost over, but I’m glad because I know I made the most of it. I’ve started working on my thesis, and it’s so much fun! I don’t mind the paperwork, I don’t mind the crazy deadlines, I just love being able to write about something that I love. There’s nothing better than waking up every morning feeling grateful for all the wonderful things I have in my life :).

I took these shots on my birthday week, this beautiful sunset was nature’s gift to me. Hope you like them!

Happy birthday and the Atlantic Ocean

Because, you know, what better way is there to celebrate than surrounded by beauty? Today Art is my sanity is officially one year old. One year of my words and my images, one year of crafting my soul by creating beauty. It was one of the best years of my life, and this blog was a great part of that.

I found my place in the world when I stood watching the sunset with a camera for the first time, and I’ve shared my path with you since that day. I grew as a person and as a photographer, I got my first DSLR, and like my favorite band says “together we’re invincible”. When I have a camera in my hands I’m invincible, and my soul’s unbreakable.

With all my heart, people, I say thank you. Without you Art is my sanity wouldn’t be the place of beauty, joy and hope it is today, and I wouldn’t have this lovely corner of the world to retire to when my soul needs rest.

Here’s to another year, and another one after that. At twenty-four my life is barely beginning, and I can’t wait to find out were my feet will take me, and share that road with you.

Golden sunset over Monte Hermoso

Monday, at last. I know lots of people hate Mondays, but I had a week from hell, and when that happens Mondays feel like a gift, a blank canvas, the chance to turn things around. I’m lucky to able to post these photos today, since on Friday night my computer broke down and I thought I’d have to start editing them all over again. It was just a Windows XP glitch though, and it got fixed in a couple of hours on Saturday morning without any losses (other than those of my peace of mind and spirit, that is.)
Not everything was bad about last week, though. I shot a couple of beautiful sunsets, celebrated the shelving of PIPA and SOPA, and discovered that my half-dead MP4 player is fully alive with my camera’s USB wire (you see where my head was last week for me to have made this rather odd discovery.)
Today I decided I’m starting this week off on the right foot, and to go with that statement here’s a load of beauty. I’m seriously considering moving to this small vacation city when I graduate. It’s photographer’s heaven, and I can teach literature anywhere. Winters will be frosty, though. Brrr.
I hope you like these photos, since there are many more to come from this short vacation :).

The first sunset Vol.II

Hey everyone! How’s your week been so far? I’ve read in some blogs that winter’s finally arrived in the Northern Hemisphere. I’m sorry you have to brave the cold, but I envy you the snow shots!
Anywho, here are some more sunset shots from the same day as the last post – hope they make you feel a little warmer! I’m going on vacation for a few days, guess where – you’re right, to the beach! But this beach is better, because it looks west AND east, so I can shoot sunrises too. It’s a good thing my personal summer time involves staying up until after sunrise and sleeping through the morning and a good part of the afternoon :).
I’m afraid for the next month I’ll be staying home downloading, editing and filing all the photos I’m going to take, LOL. Have a great week, and thanks for visiting!
PS: What do you think of the new look? I felt I needed something lighter, brighter, to go with my mood.

This last shot was my submission for this week’s theme on Flickr: liquid. I edited in Lightroom to achieve the retro look.

The first sunset

What a beautiful summer we’re having! Mornings and evenings are colored in glorious pinks, golds and blues, afternoons can be spent napping under the sun by the pool, nights are perfect for editing the photos I take during the rest of the day, and colder days are great for catching up with the sleep I don’t get during all the other days :). Besides, I love wearing sundresses! If I had a say in it, it would always be summer.
Today I had the chance to shoot a most spectacular sunset while some friends of my father took their old-new sailboat for a test sail to see if it floated (last week it didn’t, and I had a great laugh because I didn’t have time to go get the camera when they were already dragging it ashore). Boy did it float this time! It also looked stunning in the photos, so fast and sleek. I’ll get to those shots eventually; these however are from a few days ago, one of the first sunsets I shot with the new camera. You should see the smile I’ve been wearing lately. I love my Nikon D90!
And, even though I forgot twice before, I want to give a big thank you to everyone: artismysanity has reached 300 followers! Wow! It’s so awesome being able to share my beloved work with all you wonderful readers!

Golden days

I’m on holiday! At long last! Has it ever happened to you that some years you wonder where the months went, and other years you’re just happy the long months are over? This year I’m happy the greatest part of the work is done. Now I’m actually having fun writing papers, perusing books, writing down my ideas about them… I’m beginning to enjoy my career again. I’m also doing some spring cleaning in my life, and hopefully I’ll manage to sort out at least part of it and have a little rest this summer.

The end-of-teaching-practice party was a lot of fun, although I caught a slight cold from waiting for the bus in the early morning hours, so I took the rest of the week off to do nothing. Doing nothing is great sometimes :). I did manage to edit some photos, and I hope you like them.

Reaching for the pot of gold

It feels great to have some time for the blog at last! I’m going through that part of the semester when all the partials pile up, and I’ve been pulling all-nighters and then dreaming about the stuff I studied. The upside is on Tuesday night, after all my partials are done, the whole class is having a party to celebrate the end of our practice. It’s a costume party, and we have to dress up as something related to the subject we taught. I’m going as an alien, and I will never, ever post any photos ;). I’m looking forward to some relaxing, since afterwards I’ll have to start writing papers and reading for finals. I won’t be off until January this year, but I don’t mind because I’m graduating on February!

I’ve been blessed with some breathtaking sunsets lately (I think it’s the universe’s way of patting me on the back.) Hope you enjoy the photos!
