My words and my pictures. All I have

Little baubles of light

It feels good to be back. I’ve been away for two months, running around, working on my dissertation, and sorting out some personal stuff. I had to take a vacation from blogging because it was starting to feel like a chore instead of something that I enjoyed.

I went through two hard drives in the meantime, one broke down from old age and use, and the one I replaced it with was apparently faulty and broke down after a couple of weeks. Luckily the losses were minor, but the first time around the people that salvaged all my info failed to restore a couple folders, among which were my most recently edited photos (which I hadn’t backed up). I thought these were gone for good, until my second hard drive died and they restored the original back up fully, including these. Imagine my happiness :).

So here we are, my photos and me. I have lots of archived photos from last summer that I want to edit, so I think I’ll be back again soon. Hope you enjoy these :).

Cloudscapes

I can’t believe it’s been a month. March was not the best month. I did graduate, and it was nice, but otherwise it was a forgettable month, so I’ve decided April is going to be the opposite. To begin with, I have even more good news to share: I’ve been granted the scholarship I applied for last year. I’m still trying to get used to the idea, I just got the official confirmation today, but it’s really, really good. I get paid to work on one of my favorite things: writing about science fiction and feminism. I might have to ask someone to pinch me later :).

On the photography front, I’ve discovered some filters on Nik Color Pro, and I’ve been having fun trying them on my photos. I really like how they change the mood of some otherwise boring shots. Hope you like these!

Celebratory sunset

I have very good news to share with you. First, Artismysanity turned two about a month ago (I forgot to mention it back then, but I remembered now, so Happy Birthday!). Like I did last year, I want to thank everyone that has stopped by, liked or commented on one of my posts and followed this blog – without you, this blog would make no sense. Here’s to another year of enjoying photography and sharing it with you all!

Second, my graduation is in a couple of weeks. My last final was almost a year ago, but the paperwork took forever, so I’m only getting my degree now. I hate paperwork. But I love that this moment has finally arrived, because it gives me a wonderful sense of closure. It’s over, I’m done. Not completely, since I’m still working to get what we here call Licenciatura, but I’m officially a teacher, I get to hang that piece of paper on the wall and pat myself on the back. And I get to buy new clothes for the ceremony, which is always nice :).

These are a few more shots from last summer. It was one of the most peaceful and beautiful days I have ever spent at the local beach, and I think it’s a great way to celebrate, since whenever I needed to escape from the madness of classes and exams, this is where I went. Enjoy!

Kite surfer

I finally finished editing some photos from last December. I was wearing a parka when I shot these, so you can imagine the beach wasn’t too crowded, which was really lucky, since otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to shoot these. This guy was kite-surfing for a while during sunset, and there were moments when he was literally flying. It was unbelievable, and I will be posting some more shots of his athletic prowess. It was a lucky time to be shooting :).

Dewdrops

These are some shots of the almond tree that I’ve been meaning to post for a while. I was planning to post some shots from my vacation, but instead I went on vacation again. Just for the weekend, but I got some more shots of the sunrise and sunset at the beach. I’m seriously considering moving there, the ocean is just too beautiful, and starting the day by watching the sunrise and listening to the waves crashing on the beach is one of the best things in the universe. Who would have thought I would end up loving being up to watch the sunrise. Hope you like these!
